Although a huge part of the attraction of Devon is its natural charm, manifested in our wonderful beaches and sprawling countryside, what is there to do in Devon?

Plenty!  We aren't suggesting that if you come to see Devon in all its glory that you should ignore walks across the moors and days at the seaside, but we would like to humbly suggest lots of events that you should try to take in while you're here too!

plymouth

Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival, Exeter.  17th January - 7th February 2014

www.lolexeter.com

We do love a good laugh, and Exeter celebrates this with a comedy festival all its own!  Now in its fourth year, the festival features top acts performing at venues across Exeter and is often a brilliant way to find the next big thing in comedy; previous acts have included Russell Howard, Jon Richardson and Russell Kane.

British Fireworks Championships, Plymouth Hoe.  12th-13th August 2014

Plymouth Hoe makes a perfect viewing arena for watching over 4 tonnes of fireworks lighting up the sea and sky over two consecutive evenings as competitors from all over the country compete for the national title.  More than just your average fireworks show, these night's really do go off with a bang!

Beautiful Days Festival, Fairmile.  15th - 17th August

Featured in the Telegraph as one of Britain's top 50 music festivals, Beautiful Days is now in its twelfth year.  Artists for this year have yet to be confirmed, but last year's line up included Sinead O Connor, Ocean Colour Scene and Primal Scream.  A riot of colour and noise with a great atmosphere for music lovers who enjoy camping in a fantastic setting.

Flavour Fest, Plymouth. 15th-17th August 2014

www.visitplymouth.co.uk

The largest food and drink festival in the South West, Flavour Fest has been gradually growing in popularity and prestige.  Providing a spotlight on all our Devon brands and produce, this is a great event for 'foodies' and regularly exceeds 150,000 visitors over the weekend.  The fete is conveniently located in Plymouth City Centre, so you can combine it with taking in the sights of 'Britain's Ocean City'.

Two Moors Festival, across Dartmoor & Exmoor.  16th-25th October 2014

www.thetwomoorsfestival.com

In 2001 Devon was affected badly by the foot and mouth disease outbreak, causing near-catastrophic losses in sectors from farming to tourism.  The festival organisers started the Two Moors Festival to bring cheer into the lives of local people and help to attract tourists back to the region.  With a myriad of talented musicians playing at locations across Dartmoor and Exmoor, this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy both music and countryside.
