This time of year encourages people to get out and about more to enjoy the spring sunshine and the longer days. Food and drink often plays a big part in day trips and Devon has plenty to offer. With an abundance of food festivals, events and farmers markets getting underway, we thought we’d take this opportunity to tell you about some of them.

These local events are a great opportunity to sample some of the freshest, locally made produce that our region has to offer. You are bound to find an option for lunch whilst you are out or maybe something to take home and enjoy later, either way you definitely won’t be disappointed or hungry!

Dartmouth Farmers Market

This local farmers market offers plenty of fresh, local and seasonal produce and artisan food products. There will be plenty of samples available and don’t forget your shopping bag to take all of your goodies home in. The market takes place every 2nd Saturday of the month between 9am and 2pm at the Old Market Square, Dartmouth. The next events take place on May 14th and June 11th.

Plymouth Flavour Fest

A real treat for foodie fans, Flavour Fest returns on 27th May 2022. This celebration of food is probably one of the South West’s largest, free food and drink festivals. This event features hundreds of local producers offering a vast array of delicious treats plus a chef stage where stars from the region get to showcase some of their culinary skills.

Kingsbridge Food & Music Festival

This three day event combines delicious food with great music. This friendly festival is fun for all of the family and offers something for everyone. There will be a vast choice of food options on offer from street food and wood fire pizza to pasties, ice-cream and of course a few sweet treats too. Plus, there will be a kid’s craft zone to keep the little ones occupied whilst the grown ups enjoy a refreshment from the local cider bar. This event is being held on 27th May 2022 to 29th May 2022 in Town Square, Kingsbridge, TQ7 1PG.

Tiverton Farmers Market

Taking place on the first Saturday of every month, Tiverton Farmers Market has a focus on local, quality, fresh and sustainable produce and a wide range of food and drink stalls will take over Tiverton’s historic pannier market building. There will also be a special area for local makers to promote their goods, as well as live music, entertainment and other extras to make it a fun day out for all ages.

Devon County Show

Whilst not strictly a show just for food and drink, this fantastic event celebrates everything Devon has to offer. We are quite sure that some of our lovely local suppliers will be there too. It’s a full family fun day out and there’s always plenty to see and do. There will be shows, demonstrations and competitions, crafts and gardening and a food walk that is full of tempting local and fresh foods that you won’t be able to resist. The show runs for 3 days on 30th June and 1st and 2nd July.

Abbfest

One to put in the diary for a little later in the year, Abbfest is held from 16th to 18th September. This food, beer and music festival showcases over 200 local, devon brewed ales and 30 ciders. There will also be 50 local crafters, food and producers displaying their offerings in the marquee. This festival raises money for local charities and causes and has been doing so for the last 15 years. Abbfest is held in Ipplepen and there will be a free Abbfest bus running to and from various pick up points.

Tavistock Street Food Festival

Held on the evening of Saturday 30th April 2022, this event offers a whole host of street food and drinks from an array of local Westcountry producers. The event takes place in Tavistock’s famous Bedford Square and offers a great opportunity to relax and spend time with friends and family whilst listening to some excellent live music and enjoying delicious street food including crepes, vegan, seafood, curry and more.

Such a lot is happening in Devon this year and these are just some of the events we have picked out.  We hope that you have made a note of them in your diaries, we certainly have.  We are extremely passionate about everything our beautiful county of Devon has to offer and we know that after visiting some of these events you will be too.  If you are unable to make it to any of them, you may like to consider a Devon Hamper instead and let us bring the local Devon produce to you.
