With Father’s Day just around the corner we’ve put together some ideas of ways you can celebrate Father’s Day and make the most of what Devon has to offer. There really is so much on offer in our beautiful county and there is most certainly something to suit everyone, no matter what their passion or interest. Here are just a few of our ideas of things to do and places to visit:

Boat Trips

We are so lucky to be so close to the scenic coastlines and with many idyllic harbours to choose from there are plenty of water based excursions on offer. Boat trips are available in various locations; why not head to Plymouth Barbican and take a trip from the Mayflower steps out into the sound, or maybe a sail along the River Exe with a pasty and a pint. Alternatively the English Riviera has much to offer thanks to its beautiful clear waters, maybe your dad would like to try mackerel fishing or just enjoy looking for wildlife on a sealife safari.

Distillery Or Brewery Tours

Depending on what takes your Father’s fancy, why not treat him to a brewery or distillery tour and experience how his favourite tipple is made.  Salcombe Brewery offer tours that can be booked in advance online and they offer a real chance to see how and where the beers are brewed and of course there will be some samples available too.  Otter Brewery also offer tours which provide a real chance to take in their fantastic range, some of which we stock here at Devon Hampers.

If gin is the preferred drink then Plymouth Gin Distillery is well worth a visit.  It is the oldest working distillery in England and they have been producing gin there since 1793.  A tour here will help you to gain knowledge about one of the most popular spirits in the UK and will take you to the tasting room which of course is the best bit.  You could also take advantage of the opportunity to create your own handcrafted gin to take home and enjoy.

Farm Shops & PYO

Devon has a plentiful choice of farm shops which make a great place to visit. With an abundance of fresh, locally grown and made produce on offer, you can be guaranteed not to go home empty handed. Make a day of it and stay for lunch or maybe an afternoon tea. Darts Farm in Topsham and Strawberry Fields in Lifton both have large food halls, a great choice of items to shop for and restaurants so that you can enjoy a leisurely meal. There’s a classic car show being held at Dart Farm on Father’s day so it looks to be a full and exciting day out. You can also pick your own seasonal fruit at Strawberry Fields, it’s currently strawberry season so those delicious red fruits will be plentiful and make a great treat to take home.

Active Adventures

If your dad likes a little more action and adventure then Devon has plenty to offer.  Tamar Trails, based near Tavistock, has several things that you can experience.  Challenge your dad to have a go at tree surfing - clamber along the treetops, try a Tarzan swing or even a zip line.  How about a canoe safari with Canoe Tamar.  Adventurous and relaxing at the same time and a chance to soak in the Tamar Valley’s beautiful scenery and wildlife on both sides of the Tamar.  Other activities available to try include Archery and cycling with bikes available to hire from Tamar Trails.

National Trust Properties

Devon has several National Trust properties and historical sites that are well worth a visit. There’s Saltram with miles of walking routes through the parklands and gardens and there are secret gardens to explore as well as the beautiful building itself. Arlington Court is on the edge of Exmoor and is set in some beautiful grounds plus it has a Victorian garden to discover and a Carriage Museum showcasing how travel has changed through the years. Then there’s Castle Drogo, one of the youngest castles in the UK and Buckland Abbey which was once home to Sir Francis Drake.

We hope you have been filled with inspiration for things to do and places to visit this Father’s Day, there really is something for everyone.  If you are still looking for a Father’s Day gift, why not check out our Father’s Day Hampers put together to include the best food and drink the region has to offer.  We have Cider hampers, Ale, Cheese & Chutney hampers, Devon Ale hampers and so much more!
